Reliable Vehicles: Do You Drive One of These?
When you are looking for a new car, reliability is important. You depend on this car to get you to work, school, home, and many other places. It is also carrying some pretty precious cargo, including your family, friends, and pets.
Vehicles are a necessary evil. When your car or truck breaks down frequently, it’s not only frustrating and an inconvenience for you and your family, but it can also be hard on your wallet. You want to pick a car that is known for its reliability and dependability.
According to Motor Guides, here are some of the least reliable vehicles:
1. Chevrolet Silverado
The Chevrolet Silverado is one of the most common American-made trucks on the road today. Unfortunately, it also gets fairly low ratings on value and dependability. Many drivers find it uncomfortable to drive. Additionally, the Silverado was one of the most recalled vehicles in 2014.
2. Ford Escape
This mid-size SUV has scored consistently low marks from Consumer Reports and JD Power Quality Studies for the past five years. Drivers complain and report that parts are easily damaged, the transmission has problems shifting, and various issues with brakes and steering.
3. Fiat 500L
In 2014, the Fiat 500L made it to the top of Consumer Reports Worst Cars list. It was rated a staggering 219 percent below average in the area of reliability.
Problems with the Fiat 500L include:
- jerky dual-clutch automatic transmission
- slow acceleration
- back up camera and sensor problems
- navigation failure
- radio malfunctions
4. Nissan Pathfinder
The Pathfinder also appeared on the list of most recalled cars in 2014. It scored consistently low on reliability ratings from both industry professionals and average consumers. The transmission on the Pathfinder has a tendency to stick or slip, both of which can be extremely dangerous.
The torque converter and lift-gate have had some issues as well. The Pathfinder scored 154 percent below average in a reliability test performed by Consumer Reports in 2013.
5. Ford Fiesta
The Ford Fiesta was actually considered the least reliable car by some automotive experts, and for good reason. In 2014, it scored 162 percent below average in terms of reliability. In fact, the Fiesta has been in the top cars for recalls for at least the past three years. Even with this low score, this type of car has been around for over five years.
Finding a Reliable Vehicle
Having a reliable vehicle will help keep you and your family safe on the road—and will help you to avoid accidents. Vehicles that have consistent recalls and other problems should be avoided, if at all possible. However, sometimes it is hard to predict when your vehicle will run into problems on the road.
